Mobile Game Roundup: Broken Age, VEGA Conflict and More

Broken Age

Looking for a new mobile game to try this weekend? Here’s a look at some of the games launched this week, including quite a few established games which have come to new platforms.

Broken Age ($9.99 on iOS, Android) – Previously, players were only able to complete Act 1 of this adventure game from Double Fine, but with the game’s latest update, the full adventure is now available. Broken Age stars Vella Tartine and Shay Volta, two teenagers in similar life situations, but living in different worlds. Players will complete the adventure as both characters, and can swap between each, and their stories, freely. Broken Age supports iPad 2+ and iPhone 5+.

Voyage to Fantasy (Free on iOS, Android) – This hidden object game from Ouat Entertainment was originally released on Facebook in early 2014, and has reportedly been played by more than 2.5 million gamers. The mobile version of the game connects to players’ Facebook accounts, so existing users can pick up where they left off on their iOS or Android device.

World Zombination (Free on Android) – A tower defense MMO from Proletariat, World Zombination was released on iOS in mid-April, and has reportedly been downloaded more than 2.5 million times. The game sees players controlling either the zombie horde or the human survivors, as they unlock more than 100 units, each with their own skills and behaviors. Players can complete more than 50 single-player missions for both factions, or compete in player-vs-player battles. World Zombination is coming soon to PC.

Wire Defuser (Free on iOS, Android) – A level-based puzzle game from Sneaky Box and BulkyPix, Wire Defuser challenges players to defuse a series of increasingly complicated bombs, with over 80 bombs to defuse at launch. Each bomb has a different set of instructions for neutralization, and will see players tapping and holding their finger on buttons for specific amounts of time, swiping to move levers and more. As players advance, they may need to complete multiple actions simultaneously for additional challenge.

Wedding Escape

Wedding Escape (Free on iOS) – A match-three puzzle game from Rafael Lima, Wedding Escape asks players to help a groom flee from the altar and survive as long as possible without getting caught. In each stage of his escape, players must clear a large number of tiles from the board without running out of moves, and they’ll do so by flipping tiles over into their opposite forms. Gold coins, for instance, can be flipped into silver coins, and vice versa. As players collect large numbers of specific tiles, they’ll unlock power-ups, including mines, magnets and bombs, which can be used to clear large groups of tiles in a single move. It’s worth noting, players can flip more than one tile on a single turn to create larger or multiple matches. Each game continues until players eventually run out of moves, and the groom is forced to marry.

Basketball Showdown 2015 (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) – From Naquatic, Basketball Showdown 2015 is a physics-based title, allowing players to compete in head-to-head multiplayer, or offline basketball games. In each timed game, players swipe to shoot their basketball at the hoop, earning points for each successful shot. As players earn points, they change shooting positions, making the game more difficult as they advance. Players can purchase new basketballs, each with different stats, and can unlock boosts for additional advantages.

Game of Thrones Ascent (Free on Amazon) – Also available on iOS, Android and the Web, Game of Thrones Ascent is Disruptor Beam’s adventure and strategy game based on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. Now available for Kindle owners, the game allows players to experience both original content, and content based on the current Game of Thrones television season. In other words, players can watch the show on Sunday, and play through matching content on Monday. The game recently received its second major content expansion, Fire & Blood.

Curly the Pig (Free / $0.99 on iOS) – Available as two apps, Curly the Pig is an endless survival game from Theta Apps. The game stars Curly the pig, on a quest to explore the big city when his journey takes an odd turn, and meteors begin falling from the sky. Players will tilt their device to control Curly’s movement, and tap to shoot meteors. Gamers earn points for destroying meteors and can collect bonus items, including soda cans and grenades. Soda cans give Curly temporarily invincibility, while grenades destroy all meteors currently on the screen. The free version of the game limits players to Curly’s default weapon, while the paid version unlocks these additional abilities.

Fun Run 2 (Free on Amazon) – Previously released on iOS and Google Play, Fun Run 2 is an online multiplayer racing game from Dirtybit, which lets players race against up to three others across multiple tracks. During each race, characters advance automatically, leaving players to tap on the screen to jump or scale ledges. Players can pick up weapons as they run, and use them to slow down their opponents. In addition to this launch, the game has received a new content update, which places players into leagues, challenging them to climb the ranks for rewards.

Hitman GO ($4.99 on Windows Phone) – A turn-based puzzle game from Square Enix, Hitman GO asks players to lead Agent 47 on missions as they collect disguises, unlock new pathways for advancement and more. Players can violently or silently complete levels, depending on their play style. Hitman GO was originally released on iOSAndroid and Amazon devices, with this new Windows and Windows Phone release supporting Xbox Live functionality.

VEGA Conflict (Free on iOS, Android) – Previously released on Facebook, Kixeye’s VEGA Conflict is a base-building combat game, challenging players to build a base for their galactic fleet, and take them into battles against other players. Gamers progress by balancing their resources, and constructing and upgrading structures on their base. During battle, gamers tap on individual ships, and tap on targets to automatically move and attack. If they’d like, gamers can also toggle computer control, so units attack automatically. Cross-platform functionality allows Web players to pick up where they left off.
