Brilliant Geminids meteor shower lights up the dark sky around the world

The Geminids meteor shower made its way back into the sky in the late hours of Sunday, Dec. 12 in the U.S. and the early hours of Tuesday, Dec. 14 in Australia. It was glorious.

The Geminids shower is known as one of the better displays throughout the year. The shower happens each year when the Earth passes through debris left behind by an "extinct comet". It saw the dark sky light up with hundreds of meteors.

Seen all over the world, people have shared incredible photos and videos on social media.
