What mourning on Twitter can teach us about modern grief

For much of the 20th century, mourning the death of a loved one was a private affair in American culture. 


While grieving still remains hidden from view, researchers believe that social media may be drawing it back into the public realm in important ways. 



Previous sociological research on this emerging subject shows that people use social media to share their grief with others and maintain relationships with the deceased through messages and comments. A forthcoming study, however, offers a new twist on that observation.  Read more...
