In September, Yahoo launched Yahoo Recommends, a content recommendation tool for publishers to keep readers on site. How successful has it been? According to Datanyze, adoption of the Yahoo Recommends platform is growing and the company is targeting top publishers.

Datanyze, which tracks activity for roughly 25 million websites, found that while Yahoo is still a minor player compared to Outbrain and Taboola, it’s gaining traction among the top 1,000 sites indexed by Alexa.

You can see that while overall, Yahoo Recommends has a 1.5 percent market share in the content recommendation space, their highest penetration comes at the top. CNet, Business Insider, The Verge and CBS News are some of the top publishers using Yahoo Recommends.

Datanyze found that between 350 and 400 Alexa top 1 million publishers were among the first to adopt right after launch (roughly 40 publishers in the top Alexa 10,000). Furthermore, since launch, only 16 publishers have stopped using the product, while it has been added by 107 publishers after the initial launch wave.

Here’s a look at adoption rates of Yahoo Recommends, compared with Outbrain and Taboola. While Yahoo Recommends is becoming more popular, it still faces an uphill battle. (Click to enlarge)
