Apple released iOS 10, the newest version of its operating system for iOS devices. With this release, iOS users can now play games with their contacts within iMessage.
Here's a look at how to download and play games within iMessage on iOS 10.
To start, users can browse iMessage-compatible games by going to the new Apple iMessage App Store within iMessage. To get there, users can tap the App Store icon within iMessage, tap the menu button in the bottom left corner of the screen and tap “Store.”
From there, users can browse and download a variety of turn-based games such as Cobi Checkers from Cobra Mobile and MsgMe WordGuess from Secret Mumbo. As users download games, they can send challenges to their friends within iMessage to begin games.
Specifically, to send challenges, users can tap the App Store icon within iMessage, and then tap the menu button to see the iMessage-compatible games they have installed. Once a user taps a game's icon, they can take their first turn and send the challenge to their contact.
While playing games in iMessage, users will send game-specific messages back and forth as they complete their turns. When a user receives a gameplay message, they can tap the message to open the game's interface and take their turn.
Users can complete entire games without leaving the iMessage app, and they can continue chatting with their contacts as normal in between turns. Users can also have multiple active games in a single conversation.
