Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the launch of The Walk VR on iOS and Android. The app offers a virtual reality experience inspired by the film, The Walk, which tells the story of Philippe Petit, who walked between the two towers of the World Trade Center on a wire in 1974.
The Walk VR app is compatible with the Merge VR Goggles and Google Cardboard devices, and also offers a 360 degree video mode for users without a virtual reality headset. This 360 degree video mode allows users to move their device around them to change the view of the scene.
When using a VR headset, users can experience Petit’s walk between the towers by moving their head to change their view as the video plays.
To celebrate the film’s release on Blu-ray and DVD, for a limited time, users interested in purchasing the Merge VR Googles can receive $15 off the purchase price of the headset using a special promo code. The headset has a retail price of $99.
The Walk VR is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
