Ford Announces FordPass to Help Users Find Parking, More

Ford Motor Company has announced its FordPass platform as part of its move to offer mobility services to consumers. The platform will help users find and pay for parking on their mobile device, and will eventually support services including ride sharing, car sharing and more.

The FordPass platform will be available for free for all consumers, even if they don’t own a Ford vehicle. Ford is working with ParkWhiz and Parkopedia to help users find and pay for parking spots, and is working with FlightCar to help users borrow and share vehicles while traveling.

FordPass will give users access to FordGuides, customer support agents who can guide them through their available parking options and help them reserve parking, or extend their parking if they’re running late.

Users can pay for parking and other services through FordPay, a virtual wallet, but interacting with FordGuides will be free.

In addition, Ford has partnered with companies including McDonald’s and 7-Eleven, among others, to reward FordPass members with ‘merchandise and unique experiences’ for using the service.

For Ford vehicle owners, FordPass can also be used to connect with car dealers to schedule maintenance or service appointments. In addition, if users have a Ford vehicle equipped with SYNC Connect, FordPass can be used to access vehicle features like remote start, as an example.

In a statement, Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO, commented:

As we’ve studied the mobility challenges people face, we designed FordPass to help provide services that make consumers’ lives easier. FordPass is really about listening to people’s needs and developing ways to help them move better.

FordPass will launch this April. The service will be available in the U.S. and Canada first, and will launch in additional regions, including Europe, China and Brazil, later this year.
