Next Up for Facebook Messenger: Content from Publishers?

The next addition to Facebook Messenger may be content sent directly by publishers via the application.

Three sources told Marketing Land that Facebook plans to announce this development at its F8 global developers conference, set for April 12 and 13 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.

The social network already announced that its Instant Articles publishing format will be opened up to all publishers April 12, the first day of F8.

According to Marketing Land, Facebook will announce the ability for publishers to distribute content via Messenger along with several participating publishers, and one of those early adopters appears to be German newspaper Bild, which was also one of the social network’s launch partners for Instant Articles.

Nieman Lab reported in January that Bild was testing a news update service via Messenger involving “news, background information and rumors regarding the transfer window of the German soccer league,” adding that users could subscribe here or by sending a message to Bild Ticker.
