Third Person Shooter Fantastic Plastic Squad Launches on iOS

Pound Sand announced the release of its first game, Fantastic Plastic Squad, on iOS. Published by WG Cells, the mobile publishing arm of Wargaming.net, the third-person shooter allows players to collect dozens of 1980s-style action figures and head into battle against Dr. Demonocle and his Legion of Goons.

In Fantastic Plastic Squad, players collect heroes from three factions: the Cyber Squad, HeroBots and Glamazons. Each hero can be leveled up to become stronger over time, and players can customize their heroes with new weapons and accessories.

Users will defeat enemy action figures using one of two in-game control options. The first control option sees players manually move their hero around the environment and tap on buttons to do things like evade attacks or reload their weapon, as examples. Gamers automatically fire their weapon at enemies by aiming at them.

The other control option sees the game take over the controls, including moving, aiming and shooting at enemies. With this mode active, users still have the ability to manually melee attack, evade, and so on.

In addition, Pound Sand has partnered with peripheral company SteelSeries to include support for the SteelSeries Nimbus wireless controller in the game.

Users can replay missions to complete additional objectives and earn bonus prizes, like materials for leveling up their soldiers or currency for purchasing new action figures, as examples.

In addition to the game’s single-player campaign mode, users can compete in the team deathmatch multiplayer matches, as well as special player-vs-player events.

In a statement, Greg Goodrich, CEO of Pound Sand, commented:

Fantastic Plastic Squad delivers all of the speed and combat console players have come to expect from games like Call of Duty, but played out with over-the-top characters from your favorite 80s-style action figures. With Fantastic Plastic Squad, we’ve pushed the boundaries of what players expect from games and graphics, and our partnership with SteelSeries Nimbus will also give players classic gameplay controls.

Fantastic Plastic Squad is now available to download for free on the iTunes App Store. The game is also available on the new Apple TV, and it will come to Android and “additional platforms” in the future.
